HISTORY
1500: The building is seen in the famous “bird’s eye map of the city”by Jacopo de
Barbari.
1690: Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741 ) gives music lessons and composes his finest masterpieces.
1895: Sigmund Freud is amongst its guests.
1900: Marcel Proust is amongst its guests
1901: Thomas Mann and his brother are amongst its guests
1968: Control of the hotel passes to the Beggiato family, who start a long restoration.
1990: The Metropole expands with the acquisition of the garden with the old well and
the north wing where 10 new rooms are created.
2000: Drawing with the originality and discrimination on the latest international trends
and innovations, the daughter Gloria Beggiato gives the Hotel a new look, introducing
to the Metropole’s style and aesthetic an element of mystery and an oriental elegance.
2005: The Met Restaurant and the surprising cuisine by Chef Corrado Fasolato are
awarded with the first Michelin Star
April 2008: A restyling of the hotel embellishes its lounges and increases the number of
its Exclusive Suites. The Met Restaurant enlarges its lounge while the new location
of the Oriental Bar facing the lagoon makes it even more amazing
November 2008: The Metropole becomes a Five Star Hotel
November 2009: The Met Restaurant gets two glamorous awards, the Tre Forchette (Top Score)
by Gambero Rosso Giude and the second Michelin Star |
